CE classes completed/ Mega press vertical fittings

Hello members, Our continuing education classes have come to a close. Remember to renew your Licenses!
In regards to mega press fittings on a vertical application, some inspectors failed the job because they said you needed to seal the fittings with silicone to prevent water from sitting in the fitting hub and then freezing would cause the fitting to fail.
Thanks to inspector Claude Bission for seeking clarification on this issue.
Claude contacted the board along with Peter Defreitas and viega.
The response from viega: Regarding the question. We do not require the fitting to be sealed from the outside when it is installed in a vertical position. If someone would like to they can use 100% silicone after the press has been made. ( Do Not get the silicone inside the fitting ) Please take a look at the attached letter that talks about this. Freezing is Not a concern as it would be similar to an ice cube tray where any water that froze would be able to expand up over the top of hub not putting any force on the joint itself.
Hope this helps, Also mega press is approved for outside and underground use.

Continuing Education Classes

Hello Members,

Hope all’s well, The HCPGIA CE classes have come to a conclusion for this renewal cycle. We would like to Thank our host F.W.Webb of Springfield for their continued support of HCPGIA and the plumbing industry’s continuing education. A special thank you to Shon Cabrera and his staff for making this possible.
There is a up coming 4 hour IAPMO class on the 30th at Castle of Knights in Chicopee. 8am to 12pm.
Don’t forget to renew your licenses by May 1st.
Springfield is still looking for a full time inspector, to apply go to the City of Spfld web site and apply. See you next week in Chicopee!

Upcoming CE Classes

Hello Members,

We will be busy with upcoming continuing education classes. The first is HCPGIA class scheduled for February 27, at 5:00pm at F.W.Webb in Springfield.
The second class is scheduled for March,19 at 5:00 pm at F.W.Webb in Springfield. The IAPMO class is scheduled for March 30 at 8:00 am to be held at the Castle of Knights in Chicopee,Ma.
I would like to welcome the new Springfield inspector Paul Brodeur. Paul was previously an inspector in Agawam.
Springfield still has one more position available. You can apply on the City’s web site.
Saturday March 2 is the big trade show in Marlboro. The MA PHCC is the host. You can visit https//www.phccma.org/.trade show.rhtml

248 CMR code changes

Hello members, As of December 8, 2023 the code changes have been implemented. Remember that a permit prior to December 8 has to be inspected with the old code. If you have any questions regarding the changes call your fellow members. I’m sure this will be confusing for a while. Also make sure permit applications are filled out correctly before accepting them. And that only the licensed person holding the application can call for the inspection.

Continuing Ed Classes news

Hello Members, The IAPMO four hour class was held this past Saturday at the castle of knights in Chicopee. There was a lot of new information on the up coming code changes.
There is a HCPGIA class on December 12 at 5pm to be held at F.W.Webb on progress ave in Springfield. If you have not paid your dues please see Doug Dryer.
There is an open inspectors position in Springfield. You can go to Springfieldcityhall.com and fill out the application.
Heath Dion is the new inspector for the town of East Longmeadow, he also holds the position in Longmeadow. Dave Frendenburgh is the new back up inspector in Chicopee taken over for the retired Carl Zimmerman.

Hello Members, Hope this post finds you well. This is a reminder that the first association CE class will be held on October, 24, 2023 at F.W.Webb located on progress ave in Springfield. The class will begin at 5:00pm. Please be aware that if you miss a class you can make it up in April. Date and time TBA. Or you can attend another associations class. If you have not paid your dues you can pay at this meeting.

HCPGIA Cookout

Another successful event held by HCPGIA! It was a perfect day on the Connecticut river. We would like to thank Carl Zimmerman and the Springfield Yacht and Canoe club for hosting us, also a shout out to Take Five restaurant for the great food that was enjoyed by all. Also a thank you to Mike Day and Doug Dryer for there continuing help and support.
On a sad note, Carl Zimmerman will be retiring at the end of September. Carl has been an intricate part in our association and the apprentice program. He will be sorely missed. We wish you a happy retirement Carl.
The first CE class is October ,24, 2023. Hope to see everyone there !
